We always feel honoured when we get asked to flower an intimate wedding, there is something rather special about being part of something so cherished and being welcomed in by a couple’s closest family and friends. Last September we created something rather special for Hannah and Josh’s day that might just be one of our favourite weddings ever! Nestled within reach of the incomparable Northumberland coast is the beautiful Brunton House. This is where Hannah and Josh chose to spend a magical few days with their nearest and dearest, and after eight years together enjoy a rather special intimate wedding.

Oranges, peaches and pinks was their chosen colour scheme which married perfectly with the rich furnishings of the house. We created an abundant staircase installation that naturally flowed up and down the stairs. Whilst it may not be obvious from the photographs all the flowers were in various different vases filled with water - this allowed for different heights and depth, whilst also keeping the flowers fresh for a few days so they could be enjoyed by the wedding party throughout the time they were in the house. Dahlias, cosmos, asters, scabious, roses, sweet peas, chrysanthemums and zinnias filled the vases and made a truly seasonal display. A particular favourite section featured bronze fennel and hypericum berries giving lovely contrasting textures to the arrangement.

After the ceremony the party moved into the dining room. The long table was beautifully decorated by the couple - candles in shades of orange and glassware in pinks and peaches meant the theme flowed effortlessly throughout. We cut dahlias in deep and rich pinks that were placed into bud vases to line the table’s centre.

Away from the house flowers a real highlight was creating the wedding party flowers. Every guest had flowers so that meant making buttonholes, pin corsages and wrist corsages. Fresh nasturtium flowers, scabious, roses and grasses went into the buttonholes. We love it when a couple don’t want matching buttonholes - it allows for so much more creativity and fun! We mainly used dried flowers for the two different corsage types as we find they look better throughout a wedding day so lots of dried strawflowers, larkspur and statice went into these. We finished them all off with different hand dyed silk ribbons in differing tones of peaches and pinks.

Lastly, we come to Hannah and Josh’s flowers. Instead of a traditional buttonhole Josh requested a pocket square of flowers, this is something that is definitely getting more popular for people wanting something a little different! Created to sit effortlessly in the suit breast pocket they really do give great impact, especially in these rich colours of Josh’s. Hannah’s bouquet was a dream to create, it was a true garden gathered style bouquet filled with all the best bits that were growing in our cutting garden the day of the wedding. Scooped up into an abundant handful of September gorgeousness, the dahlias in the bouquet might just be my favourite part!

Special thank you to Amy Woodham Photography for all these stunning images!
